Title deeds type
North Cyprus has a unique multicultural history, which results in two main categories of title deeds: Pre-74 and TRNC Title. Both types of title deeds are equally secure and guaranteed by the government of North Cyprus.
- TRNC title documents include Esder or Exchange and TMD title deeds as well. The pre-74 title deeds, which make up only 10% of North Cyprus, have been considered as a preferred option for some investors before March 2010. However, since then, the consensus among international investors is that both types of title deeds in North Cyprus are equally safe.
- The PRE-74 (Turkish and English) title deed refers to land or property built in a part of North Cyprus that has never belonged to Greek Cyprus. These documents are emotionally and historically significant to Turkish Cypriots, and they tend to prefer them when possible. It should be noted that PRE-74 documents are now automatically registered in the name of the new owner, just like TRNC documents.
- The TRNC Certificate of Ownership is a newly acquired land or property in North Cyprus that has a new and valid document issued by the government of North Cyprus since the island was divided in 1974.
